Trevor Lawrence is now the official 1st overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. For almost a year, everyone expected Lawrence to be selected #1 overall in the draft.

And while several prospects moved up and down in the pecking order, Lawrence’s stock remained the same. And while being the 1st overall pick in the draft can be an honor, it comes with its own set of challenges.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence spoke to ESPN after the NFL Draft. Marty Smith asked him about the challenges that come with being the #1 overall draft pick.

Lawrence noted that he always has to stay aware of the expectations around him. However, Lawrence isn’t concerned with those expectations and wants to develop at his own pace and become his own player.

“I think you always got to be switched on. Whether that’s just in life or on the field. Obviously, there’s a lot of expectations but that comes with the platform. So I’ve kind of embraced it and chose to see the good side of it.

“There’s a lot of good things I can do with my platform and just like helping the community or whatever that may be. There’s so many good things that can come from it.”

Trevor Lawrence tipped for success in the NFL

Lawrence also added that not everything is confetti and happiness in the NFL. Developing in the NFL when the entire league has their attention focused on you cannot be easy for a young player.

But overall, Lawrence seemed determined to carve out his own niche in his upcoming stint at Duval, regardless of the challenges that he has ahead of him

“But obviously that comes with some things that aren’t great all the time. A lot of scrutiny, eyes on you all the time. So I think that was probably the hardest part for me to adjust to.

“But I think now, having dealt with it for three years at Clemson, on the biggest stage in college, I think I’m more ready than you ever could be as a college guy moving on to the next level, and just can’t wait to see what happens in Jacksonville.”

Will Trevor Lawrence be a success in Jacksonville? Many fans are hoping that he will be the savior of the franchise. However, he will need time to help this team find success, and results may not be immediate.
