“Trade Harden For Holiday”: Despite 27YO NBA Star’s Arrival in Philadelphia, Fans Demand James Harden Trade for Damian Lillard Casualty

The fans of the Philadelphia 76ers are in an uproar. With the trade deadline looming in the distance and the Sixers with a displeased James Harden, Jrue Holiday is just what the doctor ordered. Many fans call for a trade in support of Harden. They strongly believe that Morey treated him unfairly. Others want Holiday in the Sixers because that might just give them a fighting chance this season.

The last time the Philadelphia 76ers won an NBA championship was in 1983. Mo Cheeks, Bobby Jones, Julius Erving, and Moses Malone led the team against the LA Lakers in the finals. The frustration of the fans is justified.

The latest addition to the Sixers roster

A slight relief for the Sixers fans arrived in the form of 27-year-old Kelly Oubre Jr. Otherwise known as “Tsunami Papi”. Oubre’s infectious energy and flashy style keep the crowd and the team energized. His skills on the court are what makes him unique. Incredible dunks, blocks and steals are characteristic of this young “Papi”.

Yet, this does not make the Sixers fans too happy. In a post of Kelly Oubre Jr. on the Sixers’ official Instagram page, the fans took to making their intentions clear.

One user made his point straightforward,

“Trade harden for Holiday“

Another user made sure his point carried through,

“Get harden tf outta Philly & go for holiday. We’ll be in contention for the chip & we have a great bench.“

Yet another one brought Morey into the conversation,

“Daryl, I know you’ll read this because you’re a sick individual; if you let the Celtics get Jrue Holiday you are a generational loser and there will be consequences.“

If this doesn’t get the Sixers’ President, Daryl Morey’s attention, there’s no telling what will. Then again, this isn’t Morey’s first rodeo. If the man has a goal in his mind, he will make sure he gets it.

One fan made a direct comment to Holiday, saying, “Don’t worry @jrue_holiday11 we’re bringing you home don’t worry hang tight brotha“.

Another seemed skeptical about Philly’s latest acquisition, saying “Concerning no other teams wanted a guy who got 20 a game last year.“.

James Harden’s trade request in a stand-off

James Harden’s request for trade is the third since he moved to the Sixers. When Harden left the Nets, he had high hopes for himself and Daryl Morey. But, recently, these hopes have diminished. The tweet where Harden calls Daryl Morey “a liar” has been making the rounds on the internet. Suffice it to say that the relationship between the two seems irreparable.

The trouble is, he ceded a lot of leverage when he opted into his $35.6 million salary for 2023-24. By doing that, he turned down the opportunity to hit the open market. ESPN’s Zach Lowe explains how the collective bargaining agreement allows the Sixers to retain his contract rights. So, unless Harden is ready to leave basketball for good, he needs to come to court at some point.
