Track and field is all about making history in the blink of an eye—literally. And if a new season is here, you already know records are meant to be broken! But who would’ve thought a 13-year-old would be the one shattering them like it’s just another day at recess? Meet Melanie Doggett, the sprinting prodigy who just ran a jaw-dropping 7.17 seconds in the 60m at the Millrose Games. Not only did she break the World Age Group Record for 13-year-olds, but she also wiped out the records for ages 14, 15, and 16 while she was at it.

Melanie continues to exceed all expectations and outdo herself. At the 2023 Adidas Outdoor Nationals where she was only 12 a world record fell in front of her as she ran the 100-meter dash in 11.67 seconds. She ran a time that surpassed not only the 2018 twelve-year-old record but also surpassed the sixth-grade world record. Even her time, surpassed all six state champions from the Virginia High School League state championship that year. Being in high school after years of training to discover a sixth-grader achieved faster results than you comes as a shock. Ouch.

And just in case you thought that was a fluke, think again. Before that, Melanie broke another world record in the 60m with a 7.74-second run at the Bama Showcase. The previous record? 7.81. And then? She left everyone in dust with her 7.17 performance. The track and field community is losing its mind, and honestly, same. If she keeps this up, we might as well start rewriting the record books now, and seems track and field fans are already impressed.

Fans can’t stop talking about young track and field star Melanie Doggett’s blazing speed

What’s your perspective on:

Is Melanie Doggett the future of track and field, or just a flash in the pan?

Have an interesting take?

One fan added, “No doubt, Melanie Doggett is going to be a problem as she matures in the sport.” Another track and field fan added, “I have no thoughts on Melanie Doggett right now, babygirl just needs to keep doing her thing. 😭” And let’s be real—she is doing her thing, and then some! At just 13, she’s already rewriting the record books like it’s no big deal. But Doggett wasn’t the only one putting on a show at the Millrose Games—records were dropping left and right!

Lisa Raye turned heads with an electrifying 7.13-second sprint, breaking the World U18 Best in the 60m! Meanwhile, Shawnti Jackson (7.18),  and Italy’s Kelly Doualla (7.19) all delivered lightning-fast performances of their own. The level of talent on display was unreal, proving once again that the future of sprinting is in very, very fast hands.

Track and field fans are losing it over Melanie Doggett’s unreal speed. One stunned viewer put it simply: “13 years old running a 7.17 in the 60.” Another couldn’t believe their eyes, saying, “7.17 for a 13-year-old girl is genuinely one of the most mind-blowing performances I can think of in over 30 years of following this sport, and that is no exaggeration.” And yet another added, “Taking nothing away from the winner, of course—exceptional performance also. But Doggett was out them blocks tho 😮‍💨.”

One fan captured the disbelief perfectly: “Ain’t no way 🥹 Give me video proof.” But Melanie Doggett is the real deal—blazing fast and unbelievably humble. After her record-breaking 100m race at the National Elite Final, she praised her competition, saying, “The girls were really sweet, and they did good too.” Her mindset is just as elite as her speed. Competing for Major Impact Track Club, she told MileSplit her goal is simple: “To do the same thing but maybe PR again.”  At this rate, it’s not a question of if she’ll be the next big star—it’s just a matter of when.
