Post the 5-0 series defeat against South Africa last October, Australians did no wrong as they locked horns with Kiwis in the first ODI of the Chappell-Hadlee series. Australia took a 1-0 lead in the series defeating the visitors comprehensively by 68-runs.
Smith winning the toss, helped himself to the highest ODI score ever made at the SCG, then took a truly remarkable catch off Mitch Marsh’s bowling, dismissing BJ Watling for 6. Guptill scored a blazing 114 off 102 that helped his team fight back into the match. He was eventually out to Adam Zampa and from there the Black Caps innings fell apart.
