The Tokyo Olympics 2020 will officially be underway as of today. To celebrate this, Google has released the Doodle Champion Island video games. It is a celebration of Japanese culture and sports in general.?
Google has partnered up with a Japanese Animation house for the art. Against all the odds, 23rd July will mark the start of the long-awaited Tokyo Olympics 2020. This doodle is a celebration of the Games.

The Doodle Champion Island Games for Tokyo Olympics 2020
Playing as Lucky the Calico Ninja Cat, players can choose from four different teams. The teams are, Blue, Red, Yellow, and Green. The game contains seven mini-games that represent several new and returning events, like skateboarding, climbing, and table tennis.
Each of these mini-games has its own ?Legendary Champions? to challenge, taken from Japanese folklore and history. To make these animations, Google teamed up with the Japanese animation house, Studio 4?C. There is also a live international leaderboard for all four teams.
The entire game feels like the OG Japanese 16-bit games like Pokemon Fire Red. Google has said it is an homage to the old Japanese 16-bit games. Even though the game is limited inside a Web Browser, it is by far one of the most creative and worked-on doodles from Google, in a while.

Google always comes out with doodles to celebrate historic days and popular events. Every Olympics, Google doodles comes out with a new doodle and a new theme. During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, google release day-wise doodles and event-wise doodles. Different animals represented the athletes in the doodles.?
Previously, for the 2012 games, it was a day-wise and event-wise doodle. Day 1 Opening Ceremony, Day 2 Archery, Day 3 Diving, and so on.
They also released the Doodle Fruit Games in honor of the Rio Olympics. This game was playable on the Google App, they would add new games every day.

The doodle games seem like it’s a recurring theme from the 2016 Olympics and we may as well see another doodle game for the next Olympics.?
