In the history of MLB, players like Mariano Riviera have been included in the Hall of Fame with 100% votes. However, Derek Jeter, just a year late, missed the 100% mark, getting 396 votes out of 397. It has been four years since he was elected as the Hall of Famer. But in 2024, it seems he’s still salty and rattled about not getting a majority. His concerns were evident in an interview with Jimmy Traina, where the Five-time world champion shared his deepest thoughts. Channeling his frustration over repeated media questions, he expressed his view on accountability and the Hall of Fame Snub.
Speaking at the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast, Derek Jeter said, “Members of the media always want us to be accountable as players. Good game, bad game, you have to stand in front of your locker, and you have to address the media. I did it every single day. You may not have liked what I said… but I was accountable, and I was there.” Also, while the former Yankees star didn’t have any issue with that one person who voted against him, he wanted the media to ask questions to the missed-out voter instead of him.
“And I think you should expect the same from the members of the media. I don’t care that someone didn’t vote for me. I really don’t,” Jeter insisted. “But I do think what becomes annoying is I have to constantly answer the question. And I don’t think I should be the one answering the question. Whoever it is should answer the question. I don’t have a problem with it, but I get tired of being asked that question.” He thinks that Accountability from different sports members should be extended ahead of the Hall of Fame ballots. All of the league voters must be held accountable, and transparency is something that should be maintained.

Derek Jeter probably did everything to get 100% Votes for the Hall of Fame
Traveling down the lane, the Houston Astros didn’t pick Derek Jeter in the 1992 MLB Draft. Eventually, it was the Yankees who showed faith and picked the lad in the 6th draft for just $800,00. Since then, Jeter proved to be a gold mine for the Yankees. Before his arrival, for 15 years straight, the Yankees were trophyless. However, his presence changed the entire course of the game for the team.
Considering his dedication to the game, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner appointed him as the captain in 2003. Also, whenever the team needed it, he won several games in crunch situations. Altogether, with 260 home runs, 1,311 RBIs, and an extraordinary batting average of .310, he was a beast playing in the Yankees jersey. More to it, he led the New York Yankees to five World Championships. Talking about the individual milestones, Derek Jeter won 5 Gold Gloves (2004, 2006, 2009, 2010), 5x Silver Sluggers (2006, 2009, 2012), and even entered the 15 All-Star selections.
Ultimately, after doing everything he could for the New York Yankees, his time finally came. He retired as the captain of the team in 2014 end. Later, the entire Yankees club honoured Derek Jeter retiring his bellowed jersey number #2. Altogether, players come and go but with the amount of dedication Jeter has shown, he truly deserved a 100% vote share for his Hall of Fame moment.
