Despite his victory today, the Australian government’s lawyer told the court that Immigration Minister Alex Hawke may still decide to use his ‘personal power of cancellation’. This may jeopardize World Number 1’s participation at the Australian Open.

Novak Djokovic’s brother, who has been speaking to Serbian TV said, “Night without sleep for our whole family, really rough moments. Novak has shown that he is persistent and that he believes in his ideals. He won this fight for the whole world.”

The judge had made a ruling based on facts, but the Immigration Minister is above the court. Novak is in a political whirlwind, the people in Australia are unhappy since they have been locked down basically since the pandemic started.

The 34-year-old Serbian arrived in Australia last week hoping to defend his Australian Open title. But instead, Djokovic’s visa was revoked and he was moved to a detention facility pending deportation. He has been in detention at the former Park Hotel, a five-storey facility.
At the hearing today, Novak Djokovic was released from immigration detention after Australian court quashed his visa cancellation. However, there’s a lot of speculation about whether Djokovic will be detained and have his visa cancelled again. The final decision rests on Australian immigration minister, Alex Hawke, on whether to cancel Djokovic’s visa again.
