Tom Platz highlighted the importance of training accurately at a desired training time, eliminating the need for overtraining. Thus, the Golden Eagle says, “I talk to people that hurt themselves severely. They blow their intestines out squatting.” Nowadays, in the present climate of bodybuilding, youngsters or young bodybuilders think that the harder they are going to train, the better they will be. However, while training for Mr. Olympia or any other bodybuilding competition, fitness enthusiasts need to focus on their intensity and not the number of hours.
Moreover, Platz continues his delineation by quoting, “How is that possible? What did you do? Doing too much too soon is something people do.” The 68-YO legend adds to the monologue by explaining to fans his experience in bodybuilding as he started off weight training when he was 9-YO. Thus he says, “I think people are so excited to get the weight. You wanna put more weight on and squat more weight for more reps. But the technique has to be pure.”
The Golden Eagle can personally relate to the experience of overtraining in the gym which has severely damaged the nerve of his face. The condition is referred to as Bell’s Palsy, wherein he could not open his mouth properly, it is like one side of his face is paralyzed because of inadequate recovery and over-training. The condition is very much similar to Sylvester Stallone, who was born with a damaged facial nerve due to which a part of his face and tongue was paralyzed throughout his life. Also, Tom Platz’s fans want to watch him recover quickly from this condition.
