Novak Djokovic earned a hard-fought victory against Jan Lennard Struff in the first round of the Australian Open.
Even though he was dominant throughout the match, Novak lost the third set with Struff performing strongly. Surprisingly, this was the first time since 2006 that Novak had dropped a set at his opening match in the Australian Open.
Even Novak realizes that his current status naturally places a lot of expectations on him to perform well. This puts a great deal of pressure on the Serb.

However, Novak revealed that feeling happy through the pressure was his new year resolution.
What Did Novak Djokovic Say?
Novak Djokovic had this to say about his new year resolution:
“It’s a new year resolution: to enjoy more.”
Novak was cognizant of the fact that his position in the current tennis world makes him naked to a lot of scrutiny.
“In my position, I’m expected to win most of my matches, there’s a lot of pressure, a lot of different emotions involved. I definitely try to remind myself to stay present and really enjoy.”
Novak also talked about his match with Jan-Lennard Struff.
“I thought I started off well. He came back. He turned it around, he was not missing much. Credit to him for fighting, he’s a very powerful player.”
How Was The Match For Djokovic?
Novak got through the match after a little wobble. The first set went into a tie-breaker with Novak coming on top. Novak was more dominant in the second set winning six games to Struff’s two.

However, Struff put up a surprisingly strong performance in the third set, bagging it 6-2. Finally, Djokovic reacted strongly in the last set, winning it 6-1.
In the second round, Djokovic will face the winner of Tatsuma Ito and Prajnesh Gunneswaran. If he gets through, Novak will face his first real challenge of the tournament in the form of the English star Dan Evans.

His first-round match will certainly warn the Serbian star that he can not take any opponent lightly.
