Slowly week by week there is a buzz around the tour as tennis nears resumption. Some players will be playing, some won’t, and many still have unanswered questions. The Cincinnati Open resumes the calendar for the ATP and Alexander Zverev hopes to play in New York in the coming weeks.

Zverev, if he decides to go to New York will be happy with his preparations. The German won the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) yesterday. The UTS is a league started by super coach Patrick Mouratoglou during this tennis hiatus. This is the second season and the first season saw Matteo Berrettini as champ.
Zverev defeated Felix Auger Aliassime in the final. The match was a topsy turvy win with Felix having the upper hand until the 3rd quarter. In the end, it was a sudden death tiebreaker which Zverev won. The final score read- 19-10 11-13 11-18 18-8 2-1.
After the match, Zverev sat down for a press conference and talked about his plans. He told an EssentiallySports Reporter his next step and thoughts on the US Open. He hopes the situation changes for the better.

Zverev is unclear whether he will play the Cincinnati Open before the US Open. He will assess the situation with his team and then decide what to do. He trusts the preparations by the USTA but still has some questions.
“I don’t know, we have to talk to the team because I think the situation there is not great right now. Especially in New York. But it is good to be playing tournaments we have to see. The bubble would basically be a safe place but still the traveling and getting there is maybe questionable,” Zverev said.

Zverev would want to take part in the US Open as the draw will have some big-name exclusions. But overall he looked good in the UTS and could be a contender for the US Open.
