The PlayStation 5 announcement presentation had a bunch of exciting new games coming out soon. Many of those would be next-gen exclusive titles, which would serve to push the systems to their limits. Ghostwire: Tokyo may be the most interesting of all the announced titles.

The game will receive a timed-exclusive release on the PS5, with a PC port slated to release later.

Ghostwire is an action-adventure release with strong elements of horror spread throughout the game. Think Bioshock meeting Amnesia in modern Japan. The game boasts a completely immersive experience, which should be able to pull players completely into the world.

Ghostwire: Tokyo, a true next-gen game?

This level of immersion could only be achieved on a truly next-gen system. The game is set in a version of Tokyo, with ultra-realistic and heavily detailed environments. Such aspects of the game make it extremely immersive, which is a big sell for gamers.

The game derives a lot of its ideas from traditional Japanese folklore, with plenty of references to urban legends from Japanese culture. The game seems to take advantage of all of the graphical real estate available on the new machines. As mentioned by the PlayStation blog itself, the game would have a lot of advantages on the new systems.

The 3D sound, used to develop the game, will also amplify the whole;e horror experience. A new and different feature available with the PS5, the 3D sound will absolutely drown the players in supernatural Tokyo. 3D sound is reportedly different from normal surround sound features, and will surely be one of the first aspects of the consoles to be tested out.

Kenji Kimura has already commented on the immersive nature of Ghostwire: Tokyo.

This version of Tokyo is not a version you’ve ever seen or heard before. In Ghostwire: Tokyo, you’ll hear and encounter sounds that you normally would not hear in the city in real life. Our hope is that with the 3D sound, you will feel compelled to seek out and identify what is causing those sounds you hear.”
