Home/NFL

This year’s offseason has to go down as one of the weirdest ones of all time. Tom Brady leaving the New England Patriots, Antonio Brown’s eight-game ban, the civil unrest movement in America, and of course, a global pandemic. The coronavirus pandemic which started sometime in November 2019 in China spread to the USA earlier this year.

Since the start of 2020, a total of 6.17 million Americans have tested positive for the coronavirus plague. Additionally, almost 187,000 US citizens have also lost their lives to this fast-spreading virus. Global economies have been hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But things have ‘supposedly’ been brought under control in recent months.

With the 2020 NFL start date just around the corner, here’s what some leading sportscasters had to say about the upcoming season.

Stephen Smith confident the NFL season will be held without interruptions

On a recent segment of ESPN First Take, Marcus Spears and Stephen Smith spoke about the upcoming 2020 NFL season and the obstacles around it. Here’s what Smith had to say on the whole issue at hand.

“I think it’s unlikely, the NFL has operated their business as usual. We know that they’ve had the NFL Draft, Marcus, virtually, we get that. We understand they canceled the preseason, we get that. Outside of that, have we noticed any difference in the way the NFL does business? In terms of the draft, in terms of free agency, in terms of things of that nature?”

“The NFL ain’t playing. They’re going to go about their business and it’s going to take government intervention to stop them. They’re not thinking about it. Matter of fact, some of them are even thinking about having fans…I said it before, I’m saying it again. Them owners don’t give a damn. They’re going to have it this season, you can book it,” Smith said on the show.

Co-host Marcus Spears also echoed the same sentiment later on the show. It does seem like Smith’s prediction will more or less stay true over the course of the season. The 2020 NFL season kicks off on September 11, 2020. Defending champions Kansas City Chiefs go up against Houston Texans on opening day.
