A reporter asked Gauff how she perceives Federer’s contribution to tennis. The 17-year-old stated, “For me as a player he’s probably one of the most influential players ever to play. We all know that he’s the greatest on the court and off the court, we already know that. I think the way he influenced the game, how to act, how to respond to the media, and how to handle yourself it’s something that I try to model myself.”
Roger Federer continues to inspire millions
Gauff has interacted with Federer a few times. She stated that Roger has always been supportive in their meetings. She further revealed that there is nobody who has bad things to say about the living legend. The 17-year-old would barely have had a chance to watch Federer in his prime, but the impact that he still has speaks volumes about his persona.
The French Open quarterfinalist added, “For me, he’s a great guy, I got to speak to him a couple of times and he’s always been a great support for me and honestly, it’s not enough words. I don’t think anybody has one bad thing to say about Roger Federer. I think that he is one of the greatest athletes, players, and people in general, forget the tennis just in general.”
Coming onto tennis, Federer ended his season early and recently underwent another knee surgery. We hope to see him back on Tour soon. On the other hand, Gauff is competing in the Indian Wells where she’ll be taking on Paula Badosa in the Round of 32.
