Nick Kyrgios looked like a man on a mission in his fourth-round match against Rafael Nadal. Even though he lost, the Australian showcased through his grit and determination that 2020 might just be the year where he fulfils his potential.

Many people doubted that Kyrgios could perform well at the Australian Open. German star Alexander Zverev was one of them. After the conclusion of a dismal ATP Cup and before the begging of the Australian Open, Sascha had some harsh words for Nick.

“There are a lot of young guys that are right now, no offence, just better than him.”

Even though Kyrgios’ initial reactions were calm, he left no opportunity to take sly digs at Sascha. One of these was about Zverev’s disastrous attempt to execute the tweener – a trademark of Nick Kyrgios.

Nick has again hit out at Zverev after he lost a close match to Nadal.

What Did Nick Kyrgios Say?

Despite the comments of critics and Zverev, Kyrgios reached the round of 16 at the Australian Open. He even defeated a player seeded higher than him in the form of Karen Khachanov.

Following this, he had this response to Alexander Zverev –

“I mean, I think I’m playing better tennis than I was. You look at my drawback then to the opponents I played this time around, probably a lot tougher this time around. But, I mean, looking how far I’ve come, I guess there were only 15 better than me in the draw. That was for Zverev but that was a joke (laughter).”

However, Nick himself doesn’t think much of his improvements as a tennis player. He’s more concerned about his impressive attitude improvement.

“I think I’ve made progress as a human. Tennis player, I don’t really care about as much”.

Nick Kyrgios also paid a heartwarming tribute to Basketball legend Kobe Bryant after the latter’s tragic demise. Kyrgios appeared in Bryant’s jersey before the match.

“I don’t think they make them like him anymore, he was different. The way he trained, the way he did things, the way he played was special.”

Whatever you say about the man, Kyrgios is an attractive player. As the classic saying goes- “Love him, hate him, but you can’t ignore him”.
