Advocating for the rights of people and standing with them is crucial. It is even more effective when it’s done by people with a platform, reach and impact. In recent times rights of people of color and people from the LGBTQ+ community require more attention. As they are amongst the most vulnerable in the world society, voicing your support goes a long distance.

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union laid down a blueprint on how to be compassionate and more accepting of people different from us. The couple gave a moving speech after receiving an award and it has garnered positive on the internet.

With the NAACP Image Awards, they honor people of color for their outstanding achievements in the fields of art and literature. Dwyane Wade and his wife Gabrielle Union were honored at this year’s awards for their support and philanthropic work for the LGBTQ+ community.

Wade talked to his daughter publicly on stage

Wade in his speech, directly talked to his daughter Zaya who came out as transgender in 2020. He said in his speech, “As your father, all I’ve wanted to do was get it right,”. “I’ve sat back and watched how gracefully you’ve taken on the public scrutiny. And even though it’s not easy, I watched you walk out of that house every morning. As yourself. I admire how you’ve handled the ignorance in our world. I admire that you face every day. To say that your village is proud of you is an understatement. Thank you for showing me that there’s more than just one way to talk effectively.

Zaya Wade allowed to legally change her name and gender

The daughter of Dwyane Wade is now allowed by the California Court to legally change her name and gender. The 15-year-old will now be legally known as Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade.
