An India-Pakistan bilateral series has once again been put in jeopardy, in the wake of the recent Gurdaspur attacks. In a supposed Memorundum of Understanding the arch-rivals were to play each other in five series before 2023, but the Countries’ cricketing boards have always been at loggerheads ever since the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. The BCCI has already come forward negating the possibility of a long series later this year.

“Pakistan need to know that cricket can’t be played if the security and peace of our nation is affected. I understand a sport is a different thing, but our internal security is important.” Aunrag Thakur, the Secretary of the BCCI said, Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has welcomed the move of the cricket board stating that security indeed of utmost importance.

“I think BCCI is correct in saying that terror will have to completely go before play could happen. Because as human beings we also want terror to completely go,” Ganguly told the media in New Delhi.

“So this has always been the case with an India-Pakistan series. As much as we understand that it is entertaining and it is a high-profile series, we cannot take away the sufferings which the people go through at the border especially after what happened in Gurdaspur,” added the iconic former skipper.
