What could be more touching than a father-daughter relationship? Alexis Ohanian, husband of tennis legend Serena Williams, is always showing the world that the best moments in life aren’t to be lived in boardrooms or sports arenas but are found, more frequently than not, in moments like this. This time, courtside of the Watsco Center was witness to a rare and stunning father-daughter sighting on January 30, which featured Alexis with his seven-year-old daughter, Olympia. What were they doing there?

Alexis Ohanian and his daughter Olympia were at the Watsco Center to cheer on the Virginia Cavaliers women’s NCAA basketball team! Ohanian, a proud UVA alumnus, posted excitedly on social media before the game in collaboration with Virginia Women’s Basketball, sharing a picture of the court and a playful selfie with Olympia, which was captioned, “Oh hey, alexisohanian.

How did the game go, though? Cavaliers started strong but saw their 13-point lead slip away as the Miami Hurricanes made an incredible comeback, winning 77-74!

This isn’t the first heartwarming photo of Alexis Ohanian with his daughter Olympia, and certainly, it won’t be the last! Proud “girl dad” Alexis has, on numerous occasions, reiterated that nothing else in this world gives the same joy as that of being a father.

Last year, the proud dad of two shared a carousel of heartwarming photos from their trip to New York City. The duo, spending precious time together, were seen attending a play, visiting Milk Bar, and enjoying the iconic American Girl Store. But as much as the city’s hustle and bustle made for an unforgettable adventure, it was the quiet moments that spoke volumes.

In his caption on the photo shared by Ohanian, he couldn’t help but reflect on how much his oldest daughter had grown. He wrote: “Beautiful weekend with our SEVEN year old Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. 🥹 My heart is full. We got to celebrate the final days of being six in Papa’s birthplace. Olympia Ohanianyour mama and I love you more with every passing year. My life changed September 1, 2017  thank you.”

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian married on November 16, 2017—just two months after welcoming their first daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., in September. Five years later, their family grew again with the birth of Adira River Ohanian in August 2023.

Now, coming to Alexis Ohanian and Olympia’s day out at the basketball game—do you remember who he was rooting for? It wasn’t just any team! Ohanian was cheering for Virginia, and there’s more to his connection with the Cavaliers than just fandom. The Reddit co-founder isn’t just a businessman and a devoted father—he’s a philanthropist, too! And recently, he made history by donating the largest gift ever to the University of Virginia women’s basketball program.

Alexis Ohanian gives the largest donation in UVA Women’s basketball history

The Virginia women’s basketball team received a “multi-year transformational gift” last December from none other than entrepreneur and philanthropist Alexis Ohanian. But do you know how big is this donation? The specific amount hasn’t been disclosed, but one thing is clear it’s the largest in the history of the program!

Another question? Why is Ohanian, the Reddit co-founder and husband of Serena Williams, making such a bold move? The answer lies in his deep-rooted passion for women’s sports and as a founding investor in Angel City FC, he has long been an advocate for female athletes. And let’s not forget—he’s also a proud University of Virginia alumnus, graduating in 2005.

Starting Angel City and seeing the wave of investment in women’s sports really has been inspiring,” Ohanian told ESPN. “Women’s basketball has popped up constantly on my radar, and lots of folks have been asking me about it.”

He isn’t just investing—he’s challenging the old narratives. “There was an under-investment in women’s sports, but also a mindset that it was not about excellence or business returns, it was about ‘charity,’” he said. “The curse of those low expectations really hampered the growth.”

Now, Ohanian is helping the Cavaliers restore their former glory! The team was a powerhouse in the 1990s, with Dawn Staley—now a legendary coach—leading the way. But Virginia hasn’t posted a winning record since 2016-17. Can this game-changing donation help them rise again?
