Despite a loss in form during 2020, Monfils is in much better form in 2021. Although he made early exits in the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon, the hard court season shines kindly on the Frenchman.
He reached the quarterfinals of the National Bank Open in Toronto, before losing to John Isner. After that, he reached the last 16 of the recently concluded Cincinnati Open, beating World No. 17 Alex De Minaur in that run. His recent exploits earned him a spot in the Top 20 of the ATP rankings.
During a warmup routine ahead of the US Open, Monfils posted a Tiktok video of himself dancing. The video, which is 34 seconds long, sees him break into a joyful set of moves on the hard courts of Flushing Meadows. Gauff retweeted this video, putting the caption, “This is the best thing ever!”
