Out of the 128 elite players of WTA, World Number 15 Sofia Kenin and unseeded Garbine Muguruza have reached the finals at Australian Open 2020. Both of them have had flourishing two weeks of tennis in Melbourne.
It was difficult for the tennis experts to believe Muguruza to be unseeded at a major tournament. It was all due to her recent slump in the second half of the 2019 season. After the French Open, Muguruza just won a match in Wuhan, China. Later she curtained down the 2019 season with that poor result.
During the off-season, the Spaniard revived her coaching partnership with Conchita Martinez. Since the beginning of 2020 things started falling in place for her. The rejuvenated Muguruza has defeated the top-ten seeds Simona Halep, Kiki Bertens and Elina Svitolina at Australian Open 2020, maybe it was due to the Martinez effect.
