The Serbian ace Novak Djokovic broke down in front of his home crowd after winning 4-0, 1-4, 4-2 against Alexander Zverev at the Adria Tour event.

The atmosphere in his home-country of Belgrade, Serbia was electric. The public turned up in large numbers and made their 17-time Grand Slam champion super-emotional as the 4000 people in the house gave him a standing ovation during his on-court interview. 

“I am not crying because I got knocked out of the tournament, I am just overwhelmed by emotion because this reminds me of my childhood,” Djokovic said.

“It’s been an emotional few days and I want to thank everyone who made this possible. The important thing after this match is that we have one of our own in the final. I love you all and thank you so much for turning up.”

Novak Djokovic Gets Emotional 

 

The Serbian star Djokovic often gets opportunities to lift the biggest titles of tennis all over the globe. But he doesn’t play in front of his home-crowd as frequently as he does in other cities of the world. And amid the pandemic, the World Number one Djokovic held a chance to swing his racquets on his home turf.

Playing on the native soil moved Novak and his presence resonated all Serbians present in the stadium. The second leg of the tournament will be taking in Zadar (another Serbian city) over the next weekend. The third leg in Montenegro was annulled due to coronavirus threats and the last leg will be held in Banja Luka, Bosnia.

At Adria Tour, Djokovic had an easy win against compatriot Victor Troicki and  2-4, 4-2, 4-1 loss against Filip Krajinovic.

Dominic Thiem and Filip Krajinovic were the two finalists at Adria Tour. The Austrian ace beat Krajinovic in the final 4-3(2), 2-4, 4-2 to pull off the title in Serbia.
