Belarus international, Aryna Sabalenka, booked her place in the semi-final of the 2021 Wimbledon Championship last night. The 23-year-old did so in style, beating her Tunisian counterpart, Ons Jabeur. Aryna has been phenomenal, so far in the tournament, putting on some brilliant performances. With one emphatic win after the other, the Belarusian seems unstoppable, in fine touch, and on course to conquer the tournament.
Courtesy of her recent form, the 23-year-old has drawn comparisons to some of the greats of the game. At the post-match press conference, she was asked what the names of champions such as Serena Williams and the others meant to her. Talking about those she watched and admired growing up, Aryna said, ‘I think Serena, maybe. When I was young, I liked how she dominated on the tour.”

?”I’m trying to focus on my game”- Aryna Sabalenka
Aryna is arguably in the best form of her life, while also playing at the biggest stage in this sport. With one step away from the final, she stands a chance of joining those she once admired. However, while that might mount to pressure for some, the Belarusian seems unaffected by it, as she places full focus on taking it one day at a time.
“I’m trying to [not] really think about this. I’m trying to focus on my game, to prepare myself as good as I can for the next match. I will think about this later,” said Sabalenka.
