Britain’s new rising star, Emma Raducanu, was loving life at the 2021 Wimbledon Championship. The 17-year-old cruised her way into the third round of the tournament with some fine display of tennis. However, her dream run came to an unrealistic end against Australian International, Ajla Tomljanovic. The debutant was forced to retire from the game due to issues with breathing.
Devastated and heartbroken, the British youngster has now made her first public appearance since her withdrawal from the competition. A nobody before the campaign, Emma is now a known favorite with a fan following so huge, even her Instagram didn’t recognize her.

“My Instagram actually blocked me out, they thought I was a robot or something,”?she said, further explaining the 180 degrees turn her life took.

“I’ve had the best time of my life”- Emma Raducanu
Emma looked in impeccable form throughout the tournament. In spite of being just 18, she established her dominance on the court in all three rounds. However, with one foot in the quarter-finals, disaster struck. Doctors confirmed Emma was experiencing stomach cramps mid-game and was hyperventilating. Hence, she was advised to not continue by the medical team, for precautionary reasons.
Emma’s withdrawal was sincerely heartbreaking as the youngster looked to be in fine form. Her retirement also garnered her extra attention from world media and critics, some of which weren’t very pleasing. However, from the likes of Andy Murray to her third-round opponent, Ajla, many came to her support and sympathized with the British International.
Now recovered, Emma said, “I’ve never felt support like it. I’m just so grateful for every single person who cheered me on during the matches and all of the messages that I received via social media. I just want to thank absolutely everyone that got in touch with me and supported me in the last two weeks.”

Disappointed with her withdrawal, Emma didn’t let this setback define her experience at the tournament, and rightly so. Reliving her moments on court one, she said, “Yeah, I’ve had the best time of my life. I mean, this whole week has just been absolutely incredible… To play on court one in front of that many fans, I’m so grateful for that opportunity.”

Relax and rewind
A much-deserved break is now on the cards for the British youngster. As she begins her rehabilitation to full fitness, fans will be sure to back her and wait for her return. However, they might have to stay patient for longer than expected, as Emma’s full focus is now on Euro 2020. Donning the England jersey, she is sure to be cheering on the National team, as she certainly believes ‘It’s coming home.’
