The two liege lords of tennis, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are simply known for making and breaking records on the ATP Tour. Be it their skills, their winning streaks, their longevity or their achievements, they are outstanding compared to the rest of men on the ATP Tour.

Collectively, Federer and Nadal have created another record in the tennis world in Cape Town. A record-breaking audience of 51,954 people turned up for their exhibition match. The crowd attendance in South Africa remarked a new world record for a tennis match. Probably it’s a Guinness record in terms of the tennis spectators.

Also, the exhibition match between Federer and Nadal raised US $ 3.5 million for the Roger Federer Foundation. It is the highest amount ever raised in the ‘Match for Africa’ series since it was started in the year 2010.

The ‘Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’ record

The audience and revenue statistics on Friday were simply unreal. When initially the tickets for the ‘Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’ show in Cape Town were put on sale, the tickets sold out under 10 minutes. Later the organizers were forced to add seats for the match since they received a huge amount of complaints and the South Africans were disappointed.

In November 2019, Federer played an exhibition match in Mexico. A record-breaking audience of  42,517 spectators were present for his match. And a few weeks later, Federer breaks his own record.

On Friday, the people of Cape Town simply rejoiced their play on the orange hard-court, and Federer defeated Nadal 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The ‘Big Two’ of tennis experienced something different in the thriving tennis careers.
