The year 2020 has been a rollercoaster ride for everyone all around the globe and tennis was not at all an exception. Soon after the season resumed in 2020, the US Open became the first Grand Slam to get underway, but unfortunately, World Number one Novak Djokovic has been disqualified from the fourth round of the New York Major.
17-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic accidentally hit a lineswoman with a ball upon losing his service game and getting broken for the first time in the match at 6-5 in the opening set. The ball hit the linesperson’s throat and she immediately left the premises.
After a long discussion between the match officials on the court, they decided to disqualify him from US Open 2020.“It’s tough for you, whatever call you to make, I understand,” Novak Djokovic said while conserving with US Open officials on the court.

The Grand Slam rulebook states: “Players shall not at any time physically abuse any official, opponent, spectator or another person within the precincts of the tournament site. The referee, in consultation with the Grand Slam chief of supervisors, may declare a default for either a single violation of this code.”
After considering these statements the officials could come up with disqualification as the conclusion.

Serbian maestro was playing against Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta on the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Djokovic was serving at 5-5 and dropped three points in a row that gave Busta a 40-0 lead and three break points in the crucial game. Before that Novak toppled and on the baseline at 30-0 in the same game and also received treatment for his shoulder after taking a medical time out.
Taking a look at the previous disqualifications in tennis, in the year 2017, Canada’s Denis Shapovalov was “incredibly ashamed and embarrassed” after he was disqualified for hitting the umpire with a ball during the Davis Cup match against Great Britain in Ottawa.
With Novak Djokovic’s disqualification from the US Open, a new Grand Slam champion will be seen in the year 2020.
It’s quite ironical that Djokovic managed to hit a person in an empty stadium.

In some ways this is a fitting moment in Djokovic's 2020, which has dominated by a debate over whether one should be responsible for the negative outcomes of carelessness and reckless behavior despite having only "good intentions."#USOpen

Do note that PCB had played a terrific set which was, if not the proximate cause, a contributing factor….
