It was a do or die situation for the World No.2 Rafael Nadal in the semifinal of the Rolex Paris Masters 2020. Playing his fifth semifinal at the Bercy, Rafa tried his best but could not breach the fortress of World No.7 Alexander Zverev. What was even more terrible was that Rafa lost in straight sets with the final scoreline of 6-4, 7-5.

Paris Masters is one title that the 20-time Grand Slam winner has not won yet so far in his career. He looked desperate, but Zverev was simply exceptional and unplayable. Although Nadal broke and tried to make a comeback, he never looked comfortable during the match. It will be the first Paris Masters final for Zverev.

“Yeah, it’s never easy to play him. I mean the record says obviously, that before this match I was 1-5 (down). So, I’m extremely happy to be in the finals and another final of a massive series. It’s great and tomorrow’s going to be a difficult one,” said an energetic Zverev.

Though he looked confident, he clearly indicated that he was not underestimating anyone.

There was a question about how Sascha would feel if he wins the title tomorrow. What would it mean if he defeats Daniil Medvedev? Zverev replied that with a positive approach.

“This was always a tour I never did well and now, I’m in the finals. So, I hope I can continue playing the way I am playing. I have played Daniil a lot of times juniors to seniors and he beat me last time year at Shanghai in the finals. You now, I have also beaten him a few times but I think a final is always different. It’s going to be a difficult one,” answered a confident Zverev.

In the six matches that the two players have faced off, Alexander Zverev has managed to win five times. The only time he lost to Medvedev was in Shanghai, which he mentioned in the interview. It is going to be the battle of two young generation players and would be intriguing to see who would be able to keep his calm in the big match.
