American star Sofia Kenin hasn’t been playing her best tennis recently. She lost in the second round of the Australian Open and in addition to losing in the first round at the Phillip Island Trophy.
Many people were surprised and were wondering why she lost. Now, it has been revealed that the American was suffering from a serious medical issue. On Instagram, Kenin said,
“I went to the tournament physician office on Monday, February 15th with acute abdominal pain. I was evaluated by the tournament physician and referred to the hospital for further evaluation. Acute appendicitis was diagnosed following the completion of my CT scan. I had to have surgery and had my appendix removed.

“The surgery went well and without any complication. I am now trying to recover from the surgery and deal with the pain. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to play a few weeks because I need to take time off to recover so I have withdrawn from my next tournaments.”

It is unfortunate that Sofia is suffering from a serious medical issue. She will have to miss many tournaments, and that could potentially impact her rankings negatively.
Currently, the American is going to be dropping a lot of points as she was unable to defend her Australian Open title. In addition to that, many players could overtake her in the rankings at the upcoming events. This isn’t good news for her as she could move out of the top 10 by the time she recovers.
Hopefully, Kenin will recover as soon as possible and return for the 2021 clay-court season. There, she will be looking to gain a lot of points and do well at the French Open where she was the finalist in 2020. All the best Sofia!
