Holger Rune, who is in desperate search of a good result on the ATP tour before the US Open, has diminishing luck on his side. The Danish youngster, who is facing Nuno Borges in the Round of 32 at the Cincinnati Masters, has stumbled in form and results for more than a year now. Looking to redeem himself, he clinched the first set 6-3 against Borges before asking for medical assistance.
The match was interrupted, and the on-site doctor came to visit the Dane, checked his blood pressure as Rune looks a tad bit worrisome of his condition. From the looks of it, Rune appears to have suffered a heat stroke and how he manages to tackle this situation despite winning the first set becomes crucial now.
Having resumed the match after getting his blood pressure and sugar levels checked, Rune looked weary, and it seemed advantage Nuno Borges for a while. Had Borges managed to take the second off, another top-seed upset could have been on cards at the Cincinnati Open.

Despite the break and loss of momentum, Rune managed to hold off Borges and did not allow him to run away with the set. However, Nuno likes to take it to the distance as he led Holger, 6-5, with the latter serving to stay in the set. Considering his physical state, the longer the match would have gone on, the worse it would have been for Rune.

Despite his best efforts, Borges was not able to stand up to Rune. The Dane managed to take the lead and won the second set as well, closing out the match 6-3, 7-6. The need for time out is worrisome for Rune, who returned to the sport after not being able to represent his country due to an injury.

Since April 2023, Rune has not managed to earn a title on the ATP Tour. The young Dane has stumbled in ranking as well, and the trouble seems to triple as he adds health woes to the growing list of concerns. As he faced Arthur Fils in the German Open R16, Rune had to withdraw 4-6, 1-4 due to an issue with his knee. With an already troublesome injury brewing, it was later revealed he also had issues with his wrist.

After much speculation, Rune eventually withdrew from the Paris Olympics, failing to make his debut in the Games. Although he won against Borges, the break is concerning as he looked lethargic before returning to the baseline. Rune felt sick earlier this year in his Bavarian International semifinal clash against Jan-Lenard Struf as well.
With health issues appearing often, Rune will have more problems before he is able to make the resounding comeback he and his fans are waiting for. Will we see it this year? Or do we have to wait longer?
