PlayStation 5 received some major praise when it was announced last year. Following its release in late 2020, gaming fans around the world stood outside shops waiting to get their hands on it. The console had a massive demand, and it seemed like the company would never have a consistent supply chain for it. This caused a lot of delays and shortages of the PS5 in the gaming market.
The company knew that a lot of factors caused this global shortage. This included dearth in parts, high demand, and many more. Because of it, Sony had a lot of problems, which gave rise to solutions like a new design. However, recently, the company announced that they have secured a supply of an important component. This should most probably eliminate a major factor causing the global shortage.

Sony solves the shortage of semiconductors for the PlayStation 5
Sony recently held its financial earnings call for the quarter between April and June. During this call, the company’s CFO Hiroki Totoki revealed some exciting news about the supply chains of the PlayStation 5. According to VGC who transcribed the call, Totoki said that Sony has taken some action to solve the semiconductor issues. “The shortage of semiconductors has impacts in various areas and through various measures, we have been taking some action.”

Enough semiconductors to reach the sales goal
Totoki later mentioned that they have secured the supply of this important part to reach the fiscal year target sales of the PlayStation 5. Earlier in the year, he revealed that the company hopes to surpass the sales of the PS4 during its first proper fiscal year. The PS4 had sold about 14.8 million units during this stage, and the recent call confirms that the company has the semiconductors required to achieve the PlayStation 5 sales target.
“For PS5, the target has been set for the number of units to be sold this year, and we have secured the number of chips that is necessary to achieve that. Regarding the supply of semiconductors, we are not concerned.”

If Sony achieves its goal, then the sales of the PS5 will cross the 22 million mark by March 2022. The console might still face scarcity issues even after finding a solution to this problem. However, those who want to purchase it should have a slightly wider smile, as the supply should see a rise soon.
