Xander Schauffele was born to Stefan Schauffele and Chen Ping-yi on 25th October 1993. Schauffele has a multicultural background with his father, Stefan, who was born in Germany to a French mother, and his mother, Chen Ping-yi, who was born in Taiwan but moved to Japan and was raised there.
The Olympic gold medalist could have chosen to represent either Germany, France, or Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) at the Olympics. However, he opted to carry the US flag instead. Stefan has played a major part in his son's golf career, as he's the only swing coach the Olympian has ever had.

Xander's golf career began even before he entered college; as a high school student, Xander was the winner of the 2011 California State High School Championship 2011.
Schauffele played college golf for two different institutions; in his freshman year, he played for California State University Long Beach, and from his sophomore year onwards, he played at San Diego State University. In 2014, he became the California State Amateur champion. Xander had an incredible Senior year (2014-15) for his college side. He was the top finisher for the Aztecs in 11 events out of the 14 they competed in, with a 70.49 scoring average, which was the team's best.

Xander turned pro in 2015 and initially competed in the qualifying tournament for the Web.com Tour (now known as the Korn Ferry Tour) in December 2015. He finished in the 45th position (out of 152) and received full status for the developmental tour for 2016.
The golfer missed out on making the cut for the PGA Tour by less than $1,000 during the regular season. However, the American eventually qualified because of a 15th-place finish during the Tour finals.
Xander enjoyed a solid start to life on the PGA Tour, winning two events in his first year; the 2017 Greenbrier Classic and the 2017 Tour Championship. As a result of those two wins, Schauffele bagged the Rookie of the Year award for the 2016-17 season.
