Thierry Henry’s career at Arsenal and Barcelona

The legendary soccer player first made his debut in 1994. Identical to Kylian Mbappe, Henry became the Young Player of the Year in 1996 as a career with so much promise excited the soccer fraternity. He even made the 1998 France World Cup winning squad and played with the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Marcel Desailly, who were stalwarts of the team. Later, clubs circled him for his signature as the French player left for Juventus. But, that move failed to pan out as Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger picked up for 11 million pounds. Notably, the French manager worked with Henry in his early managerial career days with Monaco.

The player looked to start a new chapter in his life with Arsenal. Primarily a left winger, Wenger saw potential in him and developed him into a striker. That became one of the revolutionary moves in soccer. Since then, he evolved into one of the most formidable strikers in the world. Even though it took some time for him to find his scoring boots, Henry scored his first goal against Southampton and never looked back.

In his second season, he turned those goals into trophies. Henry scored 24 goals and won the double with Arsenal- English Premier League and the FA Cup. The 2002/2003 season became even more prolific, with Henry scoring 32 goals in all competitions. He won the FA Cup that season but went a step further during the 2003/2004 season. As historic as Henry's performances were, Arsenal went through the entire league without losing and etched their names into the folklore. In fact, Henry was at the helm of it by scoring 30 goals in the Premier League.

With his goal-scoring prowess on display, he won four golden boots and picked up the Football Writers' Player Of The Year three times. In 2006, he guided Arsenal to a Champions League final but ended up losing the match. By the time he left Arsenal for Barcelona, he became the club's top scorer by scoring 228 goals, a record that stays intact. But the failure to win the UEFA Champions League meant it was time to move on, and Barcelona came calling. He moved to the club in 2007 and achieved his dream of winning the one trophy he missed out on.

Thierry Henry Coaching Career

Like most soccer players, Henry turned into a coach in 2015. He worked with the Arsenal youth team and developed many youngsters. Soon after, Thierry earned his UEFA A License, but Arsene Wenger wanted a full-time coach for Arsenal. Wanting to manage his own team, he set sights on greener pastures.

He focused his attention on his homeland and joined Monaco as the head coach. The fans welcomed it with mixed reactions, as the former Arsenal man did not have solid experience under his belt. Those doubts turned into reality as his Monaco side struggled. The club sacked Henry as the team lied as low as 19th when he lost his job. He ended with just four wins in his 20 games in charge. Henry later returned to the MLS and became the coach of the Montreal Impact. He led the team to their first playoff berth in four seasons during the 2021 season. But later, Thierry wanted to move closer to his children, moving to Europe and joined as an assistant coach with Belgium. Moreover, he will lead the France national Under-21 team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
