His father Jack Whittaker is Australian, while his mother Jewel Whittaker is Maori and Samoan. He and his sibling Steven, both moved to Australia after their parents separated in 2000. 'The Reaper' would eventually move up to middleweight and beat Uriah Hall, Rafael Natal, Derek Brunson, Jacare Souza, and Ronaldo Souza. Later, at UFC 213, he became the interim champion after defeating Yoel Romero.
However, he became the undisputed middleweight champion since Georges St-Pierre left the UFC after capturing the title. 'The Reaper' had to let go of his title after Israel Adesanya finished him at UFC 243.
