Morris was born on September 2, 1989, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Preparatory Charter School in his hometown before transferring to APEX Academy in New Jersey.

Markieff Morris pursued basketball as a career right from high-school and was considered to be a four-star recruit upon graduation.

Markieff Morris and his twin brother

There are five brothers in the Morris family, and two of them are identical twins. Much to their delight, both Markieff and Marcus followed a similar high-school and university path leading up to the NBA.

They enrolled in the same high-schools and the twins united to join the University of Kansas and took up American Studies as their major.

Their life was very much identical up to a point. The twins were given no partial taste of success as kids, but life in the NBA proved to be different. Morris twins still share an inseparable bond, and their NBA draft success also has an eerie pattern.

Markieff is the older twin, as he was born seven minutes before Marcus. The same path prevailed in their NBA careers as the former was picked as the 13th overall pick in the 2011 draft, and Marcus was picked just five minutes later as the 14th pick!

Markieff Morris NBA Career

Phoenix Suns picked up Markieff Morris in the 2011 draft, and he fit in well with the team. Morris put up averages of 7.4 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game, and the numbers went on the rise as years passed.

The Suns did not make the playoffs during Morris’ stay, and he was traded to the Washington Wizards in 2016. A terrible rookie year as Wizard saw Morris miss more than half the season due to multiple injuries. Washington then traded him to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2019, a move that hardly worked out for either party.

He ended up playing just 24 games for the Thunder, starting just one. A few months later, he moved to the Eastern Conference and joined the Detroit Pistons. After one season with the Pistons, an unsettled Morris agreed to a buyout in his contract and signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.

He became a Laker in February 2020, and the veteran was indeed a valuable addition to the championship roster. Morris started a few games in the NBA playoffs for the Lakers and contributed from the bench as well. After two seasons in LA, Morris head to South Beach, joining the Heat in the 2021 off-season.
