Khris Middleton 2021: Net worth, salary, and endorsements
James Khristian Middleton, better known as Khris Middleton, might not be one of the biggest stars in the NBA, but over the years has built an incredible reputation of being a versatile and an underrated player for the Eastern Conference juggernauts Milwaukee Bucks.
Starting off his college career with Texas A&M, Middleton wasn't the flashiest player. Showing prospects of being a great three-level scorer and an unselfish forward, the Bucks' forward looked like a solid rotational player.
Despite his middling statistics in college, the Detroit Pistons eventually took a chance on him drafting him in the second round of the 2012 draft with the 39th pick. Given that he was a second-round pick, though, chances were sparse for the then 21-year-old. Even in his limited minutes, the rookie had terrible shooting splits and looked like a bust.
But the forward got a fresh chance in the next season. In a shock move, the Bucks traded off one of their stars in Brandon Jennings and brought in Brandon Knight and Viacheslav Kravtsov, along with Middleton. This turned out to be a game changer for Milwaukee.
Khris Middleton with the Milwaukee Bucks
In his very first season with the Bucks, head coach Larry Drew gave Middleton a much more prominent role in the team. Playing as a starter for the first in his NBA career, the forward's statistics increased significantly as he almost doubled his stats, averaging 12.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.
This was just the start, though. With the appointment of Jason Kidd, Middleton became an integral piece for the young Bucks side. In a season or two it was the duo of Middleton and Giannis Antetokounmpo, who were the two biggest components of the Bucks.
Playing off of the two young unproven stars was a gamble, but it eventually worked out incredibly well for the Bucks. With Antetokounmpo taking massive strides towards improving as a power forward, Khris became the second star the team needed. Although the 'Greek Freak' dominated headlines, he had his own limitations, as he wasn't a versatile scorer.
Middleton stepped in on these situations. A three-level scorer and an unselfish player, the forward was the go-to player in clutch situations. While the duo did flourish in the regular seasons, the team looked flat in the playoffs. With the Bucks overly dependent on the duo and a lack of a quality supporting cast meant that some things needed to change.
The Bucks front-office certainly delivered as they made a plethora of changes ahead of the 2020-21 season. Bringing in an All-Star guard in Jrue Holiday, Milwaukee finally had their much-needed third star in the roster. With Holiday and multiple versatile shooters in the lineup, the Bucks looked unstoppable.
This also gave a chance for Middleton to shine. With the team now possessing some versatile player, the 2-time All-Star could step up in late game situations and had easier opportunities to score. This was apparent in the 2021 playoffs.
Facing off against the likes of Kevin Durant and James Harden, it was Middleton who was X-Factor, especially in the 4th quarter. Taking over the Bucks offense multiple times in the post-season, Middleton showed the world why he was one of the most underrated scorers in the league.
Proving to be one of the most clutch players in the playoffs, it was Middleton and Giannis' incredible two-way play that was essential for the Bucks' success in the playoffs. The duo eventually proved why the Bucks were right to trust them as they led Milwaukee to their first championship in 50 years and their second title in franchise history.
