Joshua Michael Richardson or Josh Richardson was born in Edmund, Oklahoma on September 15, 1993. As a point guard in his senior year at Santa Fe High School in Edmond, Oklahoma, he racked up a few good performances, earning him a place in Oklahoma Coaches Association "Large West" All-State Team and The Oklahoman's Super 5 first team.
He played four years of college basketball for the Tennessee Volunteers. In 2015, he earned first-team all-conference honors in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) as a senior. Later that year, he was drafted in the second round of the NBA draft by the Miami Heat. During the season, he was assigned to Sioux Falls Skyforce- an affiliate of Heat in the D-league. He later came back to playing for Miami Heat.
Richardson played for the Heat till the end of 2018/19 season, after which he was traded to Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Jimmy Butler.
