Jermell Charlo’s family

Jermell Charlo’s father is Kevin Charlo, a former boxer, and his mother is Terrie Charlo. His twin brother, Jermall Charlo, is older than him by a minute. The latter also happens to be an undefeated WBC Middleweight champion. The brothers have an older sister, too.

As far as his immediate family is concerned, Jermell Charlo is married to Chy Westbrook, a Hawaiian who has a son and a daughter from a previous relationship. The couple is proud parents of a child now.

Jermell Charlo’s boxing career

During their school days, the Charlo brothers started visiting boxing gyms to hone their skills. He won a bronze medal at the Junior Olympics when he was fifteen. Before switching to professional boxing, his amateur record read fifty-six wins against eight losses. 

He fought his first pro fight against Corey Sommerville on December 8, 2007, in Tunica, Mississippi’s Fitzgerald's Casino and Hotel. He won the four-round bout by a unanimous decision. 

For the next five years, he won all the matches he participated in. Nevertheless, his turn came on January 26, 2013, when he won his first title, the vacant WBC Continental Americas Light Middleweight title, defeating Harry Joe Yorgey.

Jermell Charlo knocked out the Dominican boxer in the eighth round of the high-profile match held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Montville, Connecticut, on September 26, 2020.
