JaVale McGee
JaVale McGee: Net worth, Salary, and Endorsements
JaVale McGee is a 7-foot center who plays for the Phoenix Suns in the NBA. McGee is a three-time World Champion, winning two rings with the Golden State Warriors and the most recent one with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.
McGee was born on January 19, 1988, in Flint, Michigan. He attended two high-schools in his hometown before transferring to Hales Franciscan High School in Chicago. He evolved as a versatile forward/center in high school and later took his talents to the University of Nevada, Reno.
McGee found very little playing time as a freshman and his numbers were stagnant as well. Moving on, he worked hard and earned his place as the team’s starting center in his sophomore year. The Michigan native averaged 14.1 points and 7.3 rebounds in 2008, after which he declared his eligibility for the NBA Draft.
JaVale McGee NBA Career
The Washington Wizards picked up McGee with their 18th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. He spent three years with the team and never made the playoffs during that stint. He posted averages of 10.1 points and 8.0 rebounds in his last year in Washington, after which he was traded to the Denver Nuggets.
McGee saw reduced playing time and started fewer games with the Nuggets, and they later traded him to the Philadelphia 76ers in 2015. Things didn’t look bright at Philly either as McGee was waived just a month after being signed.
The Dallas Mavericks later picked up the seven-footer where he missed the team’s first 13 games due to an injury. McGee kept his career in Dallas brief and joined the Golden State Warriors after just one season.
Success finally reached JaVale McGee after switching between five different teams. McGee filled in the Warriors’ requirements and was a part of the team that achieved the double in 2017 and 2018.
McGee moved on from the Warriors after the second championship and signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. He averaged 12.0 points and contributed well in his rookie season as a Laker and eased into his role a year later to help them win the 2020 NBA championship.
But his stint with the Lakers came to an end right after and played for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2020-21 season. Although he played well there, he was shipped to the Denver Nuggets this offseason which eventually led to another deal, and is now going to be playing for the Phoenix Suns in the upcoming 2021-22 season.
