In the 2023 WWE draft, Imperium would move to Raw, taking the Intercontinental Championship belt with them. As the champion, Gunther created a record of 666 days, breaking The Honky Tonk Man’s record of 454 consecutive days and Pedro Morales’ 619 days held across two reigns.

Gunther defended his title against the likes of The Miz, Kofi Kingston, Drew McIntyre, and Jey Uso. His reign came to an end at WrestleMania XL, losing to Sami Zayn by pinfall. His loss at the event would also be his first pinfall loss in the WWE.
