Bulgarian player Grigor Dimitrov is the first from his country to be among the top ten players in the world in tennis. He reached a career-high rank of Number 3 in November 2017 and is currently 19th in the rankings. The Bulgarian is certainly talented and has even defeated three of the Big 4 at least once.

Grigor Dimitrov’s early life 

Born on May 16, 1991, in Haskovo, Bulgaria, Grigor Dimitrov, now 29, resides in Monte-Carlo. His parents, Maria and Dimitar Dimitrov, were both volleyball players, with his father winning a silver medal at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. His mother works as a sports teacher. They introduced him to tennis at the age of 5.

In 2007, Dimitrov enrolled at the Sanchez-Casal academy, where he received further training under the guidance of Emilio Sánchez and Pato Álvarez. Since March 2009, Dimitrov has trained in Paris, France, joining Patrick Mouratoglou's Tennis Academy for the next four seasons, ultimately appointing Patrick Mouratoglou as his coach for 2012.

Dimitrov is currently dating Romanian actress and model Madalina Ghenea. They were first spotted together at the 2013 Madrid Open when she attended the Bulgarian’s third-round match against Carlos Alcaraz.

Grigor Dimitrov’s career

In 2008, at the age of 17, Grigor Dimitrov embarked on his professional career, securing his first Futures title in Barcelona in May, followed by a victory at junior Wimbledon. The following year, he competed in the main draw and also clinched the junior US Open title. By the end of 2008, Dimitrov had already broken into the world's top 500 rankings.

It wasn't until 2012 that Dimitrov achieved a significant milestone by defeating his first top 10 player, the then-seventh-ranked Tomas Berdych, at the Miami Masters. The following year, he claimed his maiden title in Stockholm. Dimitrov's highest ranking to date is No. 3, which he attained in 2017.

In 2014, the Bulgarian star secured sponsorship from Nike, but their partnership concluded in early 2023 when he inked a three-year deal with Lacoste. Dimitrov also landed a multi-year endorsement contract with Rolex in 2014.

Since 2010, he has been endorsed by Wilson Sporting Goods, a prominent tennis racquet manufacturer. Additionally, in January 2018, ice cream brand Häagen-Dazs enlisted Dimitrov as a global brand ambassador under a multi-year agreement. In January 2019, the Swedish functional beverage brand Vitamin Well also entered into a deal with him. Furthermore, Swiss luxury watchmaker Bianchet appointed Dimitrov as a global brand ambassador in May 2023.

Dimitrov has participated in numerous charity events throughout his career. He has taken part in events in Monte Carlo, Spain, and even a charity event for UNICEF. He is also a supporter of the America for Bulgaria Foundation.
