Gordon Ryan: Early Life

Gordon Ryan was born on July 8, 1995, in Monroe, New Jersey to a working-class family. Despite his trash-talking skills, he is relatively private about his personal life. He learned to fight at 15 under the tutelage of Miguel Benitez and later on undertook training under John Danaher, Tom DeBlass, and Garry Tonon.

'The King' gained popularity when he won the BJJF World Championship at the brown belt level.

He was awarded his black belt in 2016, and he then won the Eddie Bravo Invitational tournament in the same year. The following year, he won the -88 kg weight category gold at the ADCC World Championship. He also took 2nd place in the absolute division. He then went on to win the ADCC World Championship four more times, with incredible runs in 2019 and 2022.

2018 turned out to be a splendid year for the grappler as he won golds at World No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Championship and also Pan No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Championship. In 2021, ONE Championship confirmed Ryan had signed a contract with the promotion. However, his long-term Gastroparesis condition worsened up, and he took a brief retirement from competitive grappling. Further, he is no longer under a contract with ONE Championship.

In September 2022, Gordon competed at ADCC both in the +99kg division and in the super fight and collected victories in both categories. Markedly, he penned a seven-figure multi-fight contract with FloSports in January 2023.

Ryan found love in Nathalia Santoro and the couple are together since 2016. Furthermore, she is also one of his training partners and is currently a BJJ brown belt holder.
