Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina was born on 12 September 1994 in Odessa, Ukraine. She started playing at age five after she noticed that her brother was getting a lot of attention for playing tennis. She achieved career-best rankings of world No. 3 in singles and No. 108 in doubles, according to the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). Svitolina boasts 17 WTA Tour singles titles, clinching the 2018 WTA Finals among them. She has advanced to three major singles semifinals.

Elina Svitolina was born in Odesa to Ukrainian parents, Mikhaylo Svitolin, who is a former wrestler, and Olena Svitolina, a former competitive rower. Her parents named her after the renowned Soviet actress Elina Bystritskaya. She also has an older brother named Yulian. At a young age, Svitolina noticed that her brother was receiving considerable attention for his tennis pursuits. This motivated her to take up the sport at the age of five. At the age of 13, Svitolina and her family moved to Kharkiv, Ukraine. This was because of businessman Yuriy Sapronov, who became her sponsor after seeing her talent at one of his children's tournaments.
While Svitolina officially resides in Kharkiv, she trains abroad. She also maintains a residence in London.

Svitolina is married to ATP tennis player Gaël Monfils. The duo made their relationship public during the 2019 Australian Open when Monfils supported Svitolina from her box during matches. Svitolina and Monfils announced their engagement on April 3, 2021, and they got married in three months, on July 16.
