About the Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos was founded in 1959 as an AFL franchise. Entrepreneur Bob Howsam, then general manager of the MLB side Cincinnati Reds, was the man behind the team's foundation. Despite his financial struggles, Howsam kept the team running for 2 years before eventually selling it to Gerald Phipps in 1961. In 1976, sports columnist Woody Paige nicknamed the team 'Orange Crush', referencing their orange jersey and the soft drink.

2023 Key Players

Russell Wilson - Quarterback

The former Super Bowl champion quarterback joined the franchise back in 2022 for a massive $245 million, 5-year contract. Although the quarterback hasn't been at his best, Wilson still showed his standard in 2022 as he was the NFL leader in fourth-quarter passer rating (134.1) and offensive succession rate in passing yards (4569/5608, 81.5%). 'Mr. Comeback' effect was on display in the 2023 match week four game against the Chicago Bears, as the Broncos managed to turn the game around coming from a 14-point deficit.

Marvin Mims Jr - Wide Receiver

The young WR was an NFL 2023 2nd-round draft pick for the Broncos and has been one of the few names that stands out in a forgettable season so far. Mims is a former Oklahoma University record-setting wide receiver. Known for sheer physical strength and explosiveness, he averaged more than 20 yards per reception in both 2021 and 2022. With already 246 yards in 5 games this season and 1 TD, this young guy is the one to look out for.

Jaleel McLaughlin - Running back

In an NFL 2023 2nd round draft, McLaughlin signed for the Broncos with a 3-year, $2.7 million deal. The running back is the NCAA's all-time leading rusher coming into the season and is carrying over the numbers, as he is the Broncos rushing leader after the first 5 games. With an explosive playstyle and the ability to shrug off defenses, McLaughlin will be a key factor if the Broncos have to take away anything from the season.
