DeAndre Ayton
DeAndre Ayton 2021: Net worth, salary, and endorsements
DeAndre Ayton is one of the up-and-coming centers in the NBA playing for one of the Western Conference juggernauts in Phoenix Suns. In an era where the big men are opting to shoot the ball, the Ayton has stayed true to the roots of the game and is a traditional center.
Playing for Arizona Wildcats for his college career, Ayton was seen as a certified top pick in the 2018 draft. Averaging a 20-point double-double in his only season with the Wildcats, the 7’1” Bahamian was a standout in his college career.
His high ceiling certainly was enticing for many teams in the 2018 draft. While the likes of Luka Doncic and Trae Young available, the Phoenix Suns selected with the 1 overall pick. While Ayton certainly hasn’t been as productive as the two guards, he has held his ground as a solid utility player for the Suns.
DeAndre Ayton with the Phoenix Suns
Ayton’s initial season with the Suns was impressive, to say the least. Just like his college career, he averaged a double-double yet again. But the likes of Doncic and Young certainly took the majority of the plaudits with their incredible rookie campaign.
The 7’1” big man saw a jump in his stats in his second season as well, averaging 18.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. But in his first two seasons, the Suns were no-where near the playoffs scenario and were the laughingstock of the league, having missed 10-seasons of playoff basketball.
But the Orlando bubble certainly showed a different side of the Phoenix Suns all-together. Winning all of their games, the Suns went into the 2020-21 season with incredible momentum. This meant that the Suns front office were ready to make some big moves. Bringing in Chris Paul and a host of veterans, the Suns looked like a well-rounded team.
But the addition of some big names meant that a starter like Ayton had to take a big step. In a league where players are hungry to prove themselves with numbers and want to be a superstar, the former 1st overall pick was flexible and compromised on the number of shots he took.
But the drop off in his offensive output wasn’t as massive. In fact, Ayton’s efficiency around the rim sky-rocketed. With one of the best point guards in the era in Chris Paul, the 7’1” center became a rim-runner and a pick and roll machine. This was one of the standout features in the playoffs as well as the Suns had easy baskets left, right and centre.
Not only that, the Bahamian’s defense also took a massive leap. While his initial years he was used as a offensive unit, in the 2020-21 season, he was tasked to defend the best big men in the league and more than often, the 7’1” center held his own. Given his unselfish play and how impressively he has improved his defense, Ayton might be the third big star for the Suns.
DeAndre Ayton contract
The Suns certainly were impressed with Ayton in his rookie season and the big man also committed to the cause signing a 4-year-deal worth $40 million back in 2018-19 season.
For the current season, he is set to earn $12.6 million. But this sum of money is certainly what his peers like Doncic and Young are earning right now. This off-season, the Suns had a chance to offer the big man a good offer.
While Ayton was expecting a five-year max with the team, the front office have been hesitant to say the least and are interested in three or four-year deals. With both parties failing to negotiate a contract between one another, Ayton’s future with the Suns seems to be in some jeopardy.
DeAndre Ayton net worth
According to Celebrity Net Worth of $5 million. With the center just in the start of his career and not signing a massive contract, it is understandable why the Bahamian has a net worth of $5 million.
