Early Life

Born on 16th August 1996, his father Michael Dressel, and his mother Christina Dressel raised him in Green Cove Springs, Florida. He has three siblings and attended Clay High School in Green Cove Springs, Florida.

In the meantime, his dream to become a professional swimmer was with Bolles School Sharks in Jacksonville. Likewise, his breakthrough came in 2012. The 15-year-old swam the 200-meter freestyle relay in less than 20 seconds.

Caeleb Dressel’s swimming career

Caeleb Dressel returned to competition swimming on May 12, 2023, after an absence of over a year. The seven-time Olympic gold medalist competed in the preliminary and final rounds of the 100-meter butterfly at Atlanta's McAuley Aquatic Center.

Dressel placed second in the final with a time of 52.41, behind the winning mark of 51.79 by Canadian Josh Liendo. His preliminary time was 53.60. Overall, it was a promising return to competition for the Olympic hero.

Caeleb Dressel’s incredible feat at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Dressel had one of the greatest races of his career in the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, moved up from 2020 because of COVID. On the third day of the event, he swam with Bowe Becker, Blake Pieroni, and Zach Apple to win gold in the men's 4100-meter freestyle relay. After that, he broke the Olympic record in the 100-meter freestyle and earned his first individual Olympic gold medal.

Dressel set a new world record in the 100-meter butterfly on day eight, finishing in 49.45 seconds. In the succeeding 50-meter freestyle event, he set a new Olympic record of 21.07 seconds and won gold. In the end, Dressel's 4100 medley relay team, which also included Ryan Murphy, Michael Andrew, and Zach Apple, triumphed in a world-record time of 3 minutes, 26.78 seconds. Dressel won five gold medals in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, making him only the fifth American to accomplish that feat.

Caeleb Dressel’s wife and personal life

Caeleb Dressel met his future wife, Meghan Haila, when they were both members of the Bolles School Sharks swim team in Jacksonville, while Dressel was a student at Clay High School in Green Cove Springs, Florida. After enrolling at the University of Florida in 2014, he swam collegiately while pursuing a degree in Resources and Conservation.

The two became engaged in 2019 and plan to wed in the first half of 2021. 24-year-old Meghan Haila is a licensed professional counselor and alumna of Florida State University in Tallahassee. She completed her training and is now a licensed marital and family therapist.
