Alex De Minaur was born in Sydney, Australia. His father, Anibal, is from Uruguay, while his mother, Esther, is of Spanish descent. Anibal and Esther met when she started working as a waitress at his father's Italian restaurant on George Street in Sydney. De Minaur has two brothers named Dominic and Daniel, and three sisters named Natalie, Cristina, and Sara.

Alex De Minaur was the runner-up of the Next-Gen ATP finals in 2018 before losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the finals. His best Grand Slam performance came at the 2020 US Open. Other than that, he reached the 3rd round at the 2019 Australian Open and 2018 Wimbledon Championships.
In 2018, Minaur reached two consecutive semifinals in Brisbane and Sydney. He became the youngest player to play in two consecutive ATP semifinals since Rafael Nadal in 2005.
