All rounder Stuart Binny has been added as the 16th member in India’s squad for Test Series against Sri Lanka.

Nishant Jeet Arora, India’s media manager, told ESPNCricinfo that he has been included as an addition, and not as a replacement for any player, which means there are no injury concerns. Talking about Murali Vijay, India’s media manager said, “Improving every day and the team physio is working with him. The final call will be taken one day before the Test.”

It seems as if Binny has been included because the team management feels that while he may not be a full time bowler, he can allow the bowlers to have a good rest. Apart from that, his batting calibre can come of good use to down the order. This move hints that Harbhajan Singh, who was the least effective of the 3 spinners, might make way for Binny.

Binny made his debut in the first test in the series against England in England and scored a match saving 78 on the 5th day of the test. He played 3 tests on that tour and his bowling came under heavy criticism.

Whatever maybe said and done, Captain Kohli has a lot of puzzles to solve after his team, as they say ‘grabbed defeat from jaws of victory’.
