61-Year-Old Woman Faces Lifetime Ban After Being Convicted for Negligence Towards 131 Horses

As humans, aren't we obliged to take care of helpless animals? But the growing number of animal cruelty cases reported every day is shocking. When UK Police executed a warrant at a farm in Ripley, Surrey, they were left reeling at the conditions the poor animals had been kept in.

Shocking state of affairs in Surrey farm

There were huge herds of ponies, many riddled with worms, living out in fields with hazardous metal and broken fencing sticking up from the thick mud.

UK's biggest animal welfare operation

When investigated, Christine Kelly, 61, was found guilty of failing to meet the needs of 131 equines, and was convicted of causing unnecessary suffering to a total of 204 animals.

A fitting Judgement

Despite urgent veterinary treatment, 14 horses and 3 other animals died or were put to sleep. For causing this immense pain, Kelly was given a six-month prison sentence, and lifetime ban on keeping animals. This means the remaining animals in charity care can now be rehomed.
