39-Year-Old Bull Riding Champ Creates Rodeo History, Notching 100+ Qualified Rides

Joao Ricardo Vieira, 39, came to the United States from Brazil in 2013 as a 28-year-old veteran - an age when many bull riders are thinking about when they should hang up their spurs. A decade later, Vieira proved that he's arguably the best rider in the PBR.

An impressive record

Last weekend in the PBR Camping World Team Series, Vieira looked much closer to his 20s than his true 39-year-old self after recording his 400th career ride at Ridgedale, Arizona.

Joao Ricardo Vieira's No. 400

With ride No. 400, an 87.5-point aboard Whip, Vieira joined an elite club of eight riders with 400 career rides on the premier series. However, the most decorated rider in PBR history has not won a world title yet despite coming close in 2014, 2019, and 2020.

Chasing Oldest World Champion

Now, although Vieira is older, he’s right back to his title-contending self in the PBR Camping World Team Series. Therefore, he'll continue his quest to become the oldest PBR World Champion.
