Mike Joy Addresses Fans After His Embarrassing Tony Stewart-Denny Hamlin Mix-up at Sonoma

NASCAR

Martin Truex Jr. had a triumphant victory at Sonoma Raceway, which was his 2nd win of the season.

Meanwhile, legendary commentator Mike Joy made an embarrassing mistake, as he had a mix-up between Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin. However, he took to social media and corrected himself and fans showed appreciation.

Martin Truex Jr.’s victory in Sonoma

The JGR driver fended off Kyle Busch in the last few laps to win the Sonoma Race. Notably, Truex Jr. won this race for the 4th time in his career. If he wins one more race, he will equal Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon, who won this race a record fifth time.

Mike Joy made an embarrassing mistake

While calling the race, Joy blatantly said that Tony Stewart beat Martin Truex Jr back in 2016 to win at Sonoma. However, it was not Truex Jr; it was Denny Hamlin, who Stewart had beaten in 2016 after a tremendous last-lap finish.

Fans showed appreciation for Joy’s honest mistake

After Joy corrected himself on Twitter, one fan wrote, “One of the best to ever do it. See you next February!” Another fan wrote, “We all make mistakes Mike. Enjoy  the off season.” One more fan said, “Yeah, was worth a chuckle and move on. So much to remember up there for you guys.”
