Chase Elliott’s issue with NASCAR
In a recent interview, Elliott talked about the increasing number of road courses in NASCAR, saying, “It seems like road racing was really cool because we only did it twice a year, and now we do it like a quarter of the season… But I am a believer in ‘less is more.’... I think when you have really special events, I think it’s because they happen once or twice a year.”
How many road courses are there in NASCAR?
NASCAR is known for its oval tracks, but they also have special events like road courses during the season. Currently, the number has increased, and NASCAR holds 6 road course races in COTA, Sonoma, Road America, Indianapolis, The Glen, and Charlotte Roval. Recently, NASCAR removed the Road America race and included the Chicago Street Race on the NASCAR calendar.
The Athletic’s Jordan Bianchi recently had an interview with a few NASCAR drivers, where he asked, “What is the right balance between different types of tracks?” In reply, Wallace said, “I’d like less road courses.”
