21-YO Fitness Influencer's "Rapid Eccentrics" Gets Savagely Critiqued by Exercise Scientist

It is impossible to deny the allure of viral fitness and bodybuilding influencers in the present. Sam Sulek, a young, vivacious figure, draws attention with his explosive exercises. However, skilled experts and professionals must intervene when these activities cross the line into a potentially dangerous situation. Well-known exercise scientist Dr. Mike Israetel recently discussed Sulek's chest programme and responded to his workout in a YouTube video.

Mike Israetel emphasizes the risks of “Rapid Eccentrics”

“Rapid eccentrics on an incline barbell has in prior cases, result in devastating PEC injuries,” said Dr. Israetel in the video after seeing Sulek perform an extremely heavy bench press. Such a statement isn’t to be taken lightly. The rapid descent, although visually appealing to some, can be a disaster waiting to happen, especially for the pectoral muscles.

Steroid use adds to the complexity

The possibility of steroid usage, which Dr. Israetel suggests may be a role, complicates matters. He added, "Especially when you're on steroids," underscoring the dangers of fast muscular gain without equal tendon strength. He also discussed the precautions that exercise lovers should take to prevent injury.
